Who am I?
I am an enthusiastic, fun-loving practitioner that has compassion and deep respect for each of my patients. With a desire to educate and to help heal, I want you to be one of this clinic's success stories!
And I have had success stories! Through my years of experience I have successfully worked with coughs/colds, arthritis, infertility, migraine headaches, depression, anxiety, heart disease and yes, cancer. I will continue to work with all of these conditions at the Canadian Integrative Cancer Centre, but want you to know that I'm focusing on cancer care at this time because the need for the safe integration of complementary medicine with conventional cancer treatment options is astounding. And this work has become my passion. Understanding how to safely combine conventional treatments with complementary treatments is a phenomenal experience. Helping patients understand the benefits and limitations/risks of their cancer treatment choices is what drives me in my care. With so much information available to patients from the internet, newspapers, journals and media I know that patients are overwhelmed. I strive to help patients feel empowered by the knowledge of complementary medical risks and benefits that we can help provide. Using Complementary Medical choices safely can decrease side effects of conventional therapies, boost and speed healing, lift mood, improve sleep and make it possible to regain health physically, mentally and emotionally! I strive to help patients reach these goals!
I hae been a regular Board examiner for the licensing of Naturopathic Doctors in Ontario -- I have tested new graduates on their physical examination skills (required for licensing) and I also have helped write part of the written examinations that are required for licensing of Naturopathic Doctors in North America.
I am a Certified Laughter Yoga Leader which means I'm likely to keep good humour as part of my care for patients. Laughter stimulates the immune system, the cardiovascular system and the lymphatic system -- so I might as well start some healing while I'm speaking with you!
And I'm also an academic. I have spent many years of study understanding health and disease in school and just as many years in actual Naturopathic practice. Below, you can read what my academic and professional experiences consist of.
I have been a frequent volunteer speaker for The Canadian Cancer Society. I have volunteered for the cancer support centre Wellspring and regularly provided lectures for the members of Wellspring in Oakville (Halton Peel Wellspring), Brampton (Chinguacousy Wellspring) and in Toronto (Wellspring at Odette House). I have been a mentor for Oncology nurses and Oncology nursing students through an eMentorship program provided by collaboration with McMaster University and Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton, Ontario. I work with both acute and chronic conditions in my practice which includes patients who are working to overcome cancer or other chronic disease, caregivers and care providers of patients (friends, family and healthcare practitioners) or anyone wishing to work with prevention of cancer and other chronic illness.
